This may be obvious - chances are high that you are simply looking for another job in the same career you currently/previously had.  You should still ask yourself the question however - am I in the right career for me?  If you've ever felt stress in your career there's a chance it is not suited to your personality.  Of course, it could just be that you had a horrible boss and miserable/useless work colleagues!  Work through this checklist to make sure there isn't a better alternative and to keep it clear in your head why you love this career - this will be important to help you stand out from the crowd as every employer loves passion.

• What do I love about my job?  Will it make me want to get out of bed in the morning?  If you answer no to this and you're just in it for the money then maybe have a think about how you can alter your career slightly to suit you better.  
• Can you transfer your skills to something you'll love more?
• Can you switch to teaching people how to do this?  
• Can you switch to managing people who do this?  
• Can you switch to consultancy?  
• Can you switch to selling something based on your skills?
• What is the highest paid position with skills related to mine?
• What different career paths are there for people with my skills?  
• What would I ultimately like to be doing?

It is important to know ahead of the rest of the job hunt process why you love your job.  Companies and the interviewers they hire are looking out for passion so this must come across in your CV, your cover letter as well as your interview.
